National Indoor Championships

Well done to all our athletes who qualified to compete in the National Indoor Championships which took place over the past two weekends in Athlone IT. It is a great achievement for all the athletes and the club.
Day 3 took place on Saturday April 6th and Aoife Lenehan threw brilliantly to claim the bronze medal in the U19 shot putt event, well done Aoife.   In the long jump events, Mollie White jumped very well in the U16 age group while Laura Bolster and Ella Barry both jumped very well in the U15 age group, with Laura just missing out on the medals coming fourth overall.  Our U15 relay team of Ella Barry, Laura Bolster, Isabella Gogan, Roisin McManus and Aoife Rohan ran well in their heat but unfortunately did not qualify for the final. In the All Ireland Spring throws on April 7th, which also took place in Athlone IT, Zoe Mohan threw brilliantly in the Womens Hammer event to win the Silver medal.

We now move on to preparing for the outdoor season, first up will be our outdoor sports day on Sunday April 28 from 11am, we hope to see you all there.

National Indoor Championships

Another busy weekend of athletics at Day 1 and 2 of the Irish Life Health National Indoor Championships in Athlone this weekend. We had eleven juvenile athletes competing over the two days doing themselves and the club proud. At such a high level of competition, well done to everyone on great performances. First up on Saturday were the high jump events. Nia Hetherton jumped well in the U12 high jump and Aoife Rohan jumped very well in the U14 high jump. In the Boys U14 high jump James Bellew and Lee Callaghan both performed very well with James coming fifth overall. In the U16 high jump Amy Callaghan jumped brilliantly to come fourth overall. In the U16 shot putt event Amy threw very well and was very unfortunate to miss out by cms on the medals coming fourth. Niamh Quinn was also in good throwing form throwing a personal best to finish in the top eight. In the 60m sprints Laura Bolster ran brilliantly in her heat and went on to run a great final to win the bronze medal. In the U18 long jump Orlaith Quinn jumped very well.
On Sunday, we had three athletes competing in the very competitive 60m hurdles events. Loclainn Harris ran brilliantly to get through to the U15 60m Hurdles final finishing sixth overall. Ella Barry ran well in her heat of the U15 60m Hurdles and was unlucky not to get through to the final. Niamh Quinn also ran very well in a very fast heat of the U16 60m Hurdles and was also unfortunate not to get through to the final. Following in her older sisters footsteps Roisin Quinn performed very well in the U12 shot putt.
