6Hr Relay

Dear Members, Another busy weekend for some of our members. First up was our annual fundraiser our 6 hour relay, with Niamh Cahill getting the relay started at 10am.    With many members coming and going all day running a few laps or in Aoife Lenehans case over twenty laps, some of the coaches got in on the fun even racing some.   Special mention to Paul Nolan who after attending last years relay set himself the challenge of running 10k on the day.  After obtaining sponsorship from and Nolan Associates he wasn’t going to back out and with great support provided to him on some laps by everyone completed the challenge at the end of a very enjoyable day.  206 laps were recorded on the day (82,400m) which was a fantastic achievement, a little birdie told me that some were lucky to be rewarded with burger and chips to replace energy at the end of the day, instead of having to use the foam rollers!!    The Committee would like to thank Shane, Michael, Elizabeth, Niall and all the Jnrs that helped run the day, anyone that ran laps, or provided treats.  Please check out our Facebook page for more pictures.  Training has now finished for the summer and will be back on Monday the 4th of September and Thursday nights training resuming on the 14th of September.  Thank you to those who have already returned their sponsorship cards/contributions.  The club will be opened the week of the 24th-28th of July from 10am-2pm, if you would like to return your sponsorship card, or please let me know if you would like to return it before then.  Hope you all have a lovely summer break and see you all in September, Thanks Fergal & Committee

Nationals

It was another action packed two days in Tullamore this weekend as the National Outdoor Juvenile Championships got under way. Having qualified to compete on the national stage we had thirteen athletes competing for National titles and new personal bests. The club came away with three individual medals. Well done to all the athletes for great performances and reaching the all Irelands.

In winning form on Saturday were Mollie White winning silver in the 75mHurdles with a pb of 11.69, Amy Callaghan winning silver in the U14 high jump with a jump of 1.53m and Aoife Lenehan winning bronze in the shot putt (3kg) with a throw of 11.18m.

There were many superb performances from our young athletes over the two days. In the U13 hurdles Ella Barry put in a strong performance coming seventh overall with a personal best of 10.43. Also in the U13 60hurdles Loclainn Harris ran brilliantly to come sixth overall in an excellent time of 10.01. A great achievement for our young athletes.
In a very strong throwing field in the U14 javelin Amy Callaghan threw a personal best of 31.68 to come fifth while Emily McGreal and Amy Bellew performed very well coming eighth and ninth with throws of 23.54 and 22.54m respectively.
Orlaith Quinn jumped very well in the U16 High jump coming eighth. Aoife Lenehan threw very well in the discus just missing out on the medals coming fourth.
On Sunday Eamon Armstrong U12 ran well in his 60m sprint heat and Mollie White ran well in her heat of the U14 80m sprint and both were unlucky not to reach the finals. In the U12 high jump James Bellew jumped well. Ella Barry jumped well in the U13 long jump coming ninth overall.
Amy Bellew and Niamh Quinn threw very well in the U14 discus with Niamh Quinn throwing a personal best of 23.31 to come fifth and Amy Bellew coming seventh. Katie Lenehan threw well just missing out on the medals coming fourth in the U15 discus and fifth in the U15 shot putt. Zoe Mohan also put in a great throw of 32.54m in the U18 discus to come fourth.
