Meath League Reminder

The Meath League will commence on Wednesday the 21st of February at 7pm in Cushinstown A.C. This year the league will run a little differently to previous years and will be divided in to two sections “Winter League” and “Summer League”. The Winter League will be divided into three nights all of which will be held in Cushinstown A.C.

The league nights are a good way of introducing competition to our younger athletes in a relaxed manner, and good competition experience for our older athletes.

We are asking for as much support as possible on the three nights being held in our club. Athletes may only compete on in their age group and may not move up or down a year.

All-Ireland Indoor Championships

Cushinstown A.C saw five of its athletes compete in the All- Ireland Athletics Indoor U23 and Junior Championships in Athlone Institute of Technology on Sunday the 28th of January.

The club had many phenomenal performances! Shannon Sheehy claimed the bronze medal in the junior women’s long jump while Elizabeth Morland also took the gold medal the in the U23 women’s long jump with 5.64m and later in the 60 metre hurdles in a time of 8.50 seconds. Donal Kearns earned the bronze

medal in the U23 men’s high jump and in the 60 metre hurdles. Michael O’Sullivan took fourth place in the U23 men’s shot put with a personal best of 10.08m and Shane Joyce jumped to second place in the U23 men’s triple jump with a jump of 13.13m.

This was a brilliant start for the senior team’s indoor season with a total of six medals won between five athletes! We look forward to seeing what our senior athletes can achieve throughout the indoor season.

Leinster Indoor Championship Day 1

It was a busy day for our 12 of our juvenile athletes on Day 1 of the Leinster Indoor Championships in Athlone, with all putting in some great performances.  Isabella Gogan was in winning form on the day claiming the bronze medal with a great jump of 4.38m in the Long Jump. After a few hours had passed and after securing her place in the 60m final, Isabella went on to win a second bronze medal in the U13 60m sprints, showing great determination for this young girl. On the track there were many great performances in the very competitive 60m sprints. Mollie White put in a great performance to get through to the U15 60m sprint final finishing 5th overall. Laura Bolster was again in winning form claiming the gold medal in the U14 60m Sprints. Both Loclainn Harris U14 and Niamh Cahill U15 ran well in their 60m sprint heats and were unfortunate not to get through to the finals. In the U14 shot putt Roisin McManus won the silver medal with a great throw of 9.27m. Roisin also ran very well in the 60m Sprints getting through to the final and coming a very respectable 7th overall while battling a sore knee which also saw her miss out competing in the high jump. Aine O’Sullivan just back from injury put in a fantastic performance in the U16 shot putt to land the silver medal with a throw of 9.21m. There was great jumping by Orlaith Quinn U16 who was very unlucky to just miss out on the medals in the U16 long jump but by finishing in the top 4 sees her qualify for the Nationals in March.  In the U15 long jump the club had four athletes competing. Niamh Quinn performed very well with a personal best of 4.47m making it into the top 8 and finishing in 6th position. There was also great jumping by Niamh Cahill, Amy Callaghan and Mollie White who all jumped well in the U15 long jump event. Our two youngest Jyles Gogan and Nia Hederton were competing for the first time in the championships and put in great performances in the U12 high jump and U12 60m sprints respectively, more to come from these talented athletes.

Sports Day

It was a busy day in Cushinstown today at our indoor open sports event. Thank you to all the athletes and their supporters from the many clubs who travelled to take part in the competition, thank you all for supporting the event. As usual a very big thank you to all our volunteers who helped out on the day and to the volunteers who helped prepare the club, and supplied baked goods for the shop. Without their help we would not be unable to run our events. Thank you and best of luck to everyone for the upcoming indoor competition season.
