Summer Camp
| Over 90 young athletes aged five to twelve years attended the recent Athletics Ireland Summer Camp, run by Cushinstown AC. Over the 5 days the camp gave the children the chance to try a whole range of fun athletics activates such as Sprinting, Javelin, Shot Putt, Long & High Jump, as well as making new friends. To finish off a very successful week, Group 1 to Group 3 were treated to a sports day with trophy’s awarded to best girl and best boy in each group, this went down a treat with everyone. The children were all a pleasure to work with and we all thoroughly enjoyed our week. A huge thanks also to our wonderful coaches/team leaders, Shane Joyce, Michael O’Sullivan, Aoife Lenehan, Paul Nolan, Edell Lenehan, Caoimhe Landy, also our helpers, Amy Callaghan, Katie Lenehan, Emily McGreal, Aoife White, Mollie White. With support from Phelim, AnneMarie, Niall, Miranda, Nicola, Sandra, Tony, Aileen, Paula, Orlaith and Niamh, all the coaches wish to thank everyone for participating and supporting our camp. |
National Record for Elizabeth
| An amazing fifth place finish for Elizabeth at the recent European U20 T&F Championships in Grosseto, Italy, and also a new national heptathlon record of 5801pts. Elizabeth started her heptathlon with the 100mH where she ran a season’s best time of 13.94secs, clearing 1.75m in the high jump and threw a personal best of 11.47m in the shot putt, finishing day one with a season’s best of 24.76sec in the 200m. Day two began with the long jump where Elizabeth achieved a brilliant pb of 6.01m in the long jump, another pb in the Javelin with a throw of 43.74m, before finishing the competition with an 800m in a time of 2:23.93. We are all very proud of Elizabeth’s achievements at Cushinstown and also her coach Phelim Joyce who was in Italy to see her compete. |
