Day 2 of the national juvenile championships took place today in the Athlone I.T. Arena. Despite the artic weather conditions, and fierce competition, our athletes competed very well and yet again did themselves and their club proud.
First up, Aoife Rohan set the bar very high in the U13 high jump winning the gold medal with a brilliant jump of 1.38m. Lee Callaghan and James Bellew both jumped well in the U13 boys high jump but unfortunately were not able to match Aoife’s success this time. Amy Callaghan also jumped very well in the U15 high jump finishing in the top eight. In the U15 shot putt Amy Callaghan claimed the bronze medal, while in the U16 shot putt Aine O’Sullivan threw a personal best of 9.58m with the 3kg shot to finish in eight position. In the 60m sprints Isabella Gogan U13 ran very well and was unlucky not to get through to the final. In the very competitive U17 long jump competition Orlaith Quinn performed brilliantly jumping 4.44m. Well done everyone.
