Day 1 Leinster Championships

A big well done to our juvenile athletes who competed brilliantly at the Leinster Pairs & U12 – U13 Championships in a sweltering hot Tullamore on Saturday. Umbrellas were out to protect the athletes and dedicated supporters! Annalise Harris and Kacey McManus did brilliantly winning the gold medal in the U9 turbo javelin pairs event. They also jumped very well in the U9 long jump pairs event coming fifth overall. In the boys U10 pairs event Harry Gough and Kyle Hetherton also threw brilliantly claiming the bronze medal. They also jumped very well in the U11 long jump pairs event. Annalise, Kacey, Harry and Kyle are now through to the All-Ireland championships in July for the turbo javelin.  In the individual events Kevin Doyle threw well in the U12 shot putt and unfortunately had to pull out of the high jump event due to injury. In the U12 girls shot putt Nia Hetherton also threw very well and she jumped brilliantly in the high jump, coming fifth overall, with 3rd, 4th & 5th place all jumping the same height and Nia just missing out on count back . In the boys U13 high jump James Bellew and Lee Callaghan were in great jumping form coming fourth and fifth respectively. In the U13 girls high jump Aoife Rohan also jumped very well.  On Sunday there was more action at the Community games in Cushinstown for the County finals. A lot of Cushinstown athletes were competing and they all performed brilliantly. Well done everyone.
