Leinster Championships

Our Cushinstown juvenile athletes put in some great performances this weekend at Day 1 and Day 2 of the U12-U19 Leinster Championships in Tullamore on Saturday and Sunday. In very changeable weather, one minute sunshine the next rain with some windy conditions in between, the athletes all performed brilliantly with many personal bests achieved. Well done to one and all. 17 athletes travelled down over the two days returning home with 16 Leinster medals and many 4th place finishes putting themselves through to the All-Ireland competitions in July.  In the U13 boys Javelin Lee Callaghan threw brilliantly to claim the silver medal with James Bellew coming fourth.  In the U13 60m Hurdles Aoife Rohan ran very well in her heats coming third and finished sixth overall.  In the U14 75m Hurdles Loclainn Harris ran very well in his heat and finished second overall, in his 60m sprint Loclainn also ran well coming seventh and in the 200m sprint he ran very well to finish in fourth position overall. Unfortunately injury prevented Ella Barry from taking part in her events on the day.  In the U14 200m sprint Laura Bolster was first in her heat and ran brilliantly in the final to win the gold medal, Laura ran just as well in the 80m sprint coming first in her heat and winning the gold medal, she completed her hat trick of gold medals over the weekend winning the gold medal in the U14 long jump.  In the U15 200m sprints Abi Sheehy ran brilliantly coming third in her heat and was unlucky not to qualify for the final.  In the U15 high jump Amy Callaghan was in great jumping form winning the gold medal.   The U15 javelin competition was a very competitive event with Amy Callaghan, Emily McGreal and Amy Bellew all throwing personal bests and coming second, third and fourth respectively. In the U15 shot putt Amy Callaghan threw well to claim the silver medal. Amy Bellew and Mollie White also threw well with Amy coming fourth overall.  In the very competitive U15 long jump Niamh Quinn jumped a personal best to finish in the top eight with Abi Sheehy also jumping well coming ninth overall. In the U15 80m hurdles Niamh Quinn ran brilliantly in the heats and was very unlucky to just miss out on the medals coming fifth overall.  In the U15 discus Niamh Quinn threw brilliantly to win the gold medal, with Amy Bellew, Emily McGreal and Mollie White also all throwing well and unfortunate not to place on the day.  In the U16 high jump Jack McGeer jumped very well coming fourth, and ran very well in his heat and was unfortunate not to make the final.  In the U16 javelin Katie  Lenehan came third and Aine O’Sullivan fourth, there was also some great throwing in the discus with Katie coming second and Aine third, Katie also came second in the shot putt.  In the U17 long jump Orlaith Quinn jumped very well coming sixth overall.  In the U18 shot putt Aoife Jane Lenehan threw very well to win the silver and also claimed the silver medal in the discus. In the U19 boys long jump Ciaran Kearns jumped well coming fourth. Well done everyone, a great credit to the club and all the coaches.

Day 1 Leinster Championships

 

A big well done to our juvenile athletes who competed brilliantly at the Leinster Pairs & U12 – U13 Championships in a sweltering hot Tullamore on Saturday. Umbrellas were out to protect the athletes and dedicated supporters! Annalise Harris and Kacey McManus did brilliantly winning the gold medal in the U9 turbo javelin pairs event. They also jumped very well in the U9 long jump pairs event coming fifth overall. In the boys U10 pairs event Harry Gough and Kyle Hetherton also threw brilliantly claiming the bronze medal. They also jumped very well in the U11 long jump pairs event. Annalise, Kacey, Harry and Kyle are now through to the All-Ireland championships in July for the turbo javelin.  In the individual events Kevin Doyle threw well in the U12 shot putt and unfortunately had to pull out of the high jump event due to injury. In the U12 girls shot putt Nia Hetherton also threw very well and she jumped brilliantly in the high jump, coming fifth overall, with 3rd, 4th & 5th place all jumping the same height and Nia just missing out on count back . In the boys U13 high jump James Bellew and Lee Callaghan were in great jumping form coming fourth and fifth respectively. In the U13 girls high jump Aoife Rohan also jumped very well.  On Sunday there was more action at the Community games in Cushinstown for the County finals. A lot of Cushinstown athletes were competing and they all performed brilliantly. Well done everyone.

All Ireland Schools

 

It was also another busy weekend for the Cushinstown athletes who qualified to represent their schools and compete in the All Ireland Secondary Schools competition in Tullamore on Saturday June 2nd. They all did brilliantly. Laura Bolster ran very well in a very fast heat in the junior 100m sprints. Niamh Quinn threw brilliantly in the minor discus to claim the silver medal, Amy Callaghan also threw well in the minor shot putt coming fourth and Emily McGreal came 6th in a very competitive minor javelin event. Jack McGeer jumped well in the senior high jump and Aoife Lenehan just missed out on the medals coming fourth in the senior shot putt while Zoe Mohan threw very well to come second in the senior hammer event. On May 9th another of our juvenile athletes Alan Clinton completed the Navan 6k event and ran very well coming 2nd in Juvenile Male Category. Well done everyone
