Day 3 National Championships

Day 3 of the national juvenile indoor championships took place today in Athlone and we had five athletes competing on the day doing themselves and their club proud. Isabella Gogan jumped brilliantly in her newest event, the U13 long jump and just missed out on the medals coming 5th overall, no doubt we will be seeing Isabella excel at this event in the coming months. Roisin McManus was also in great throwing form qualifying for the last eight in the U14 shot putt and coming 6th overall. Loclainn Harris, Ella Barry and Mollie White were competing in the very competitive 60m hurdles. Unfortunately they did not get through to the finals but it was great experience for the upcoming outdoor season. Well done to them all.

Day 2 National Championships

Day 2 of the national juvenile championships took place today in the Athlone I.T. Arena. Despite the artic weather conditions, and fierce competition, our athletes competed very well and yet again did themselves and their club proud.

First up, Aoife Rohan set the bar very high in the U13 high jump winning the gold medal with a brilliant jump of 1.38m.  Lee Callaghan and James Bellew both jumped well in the U13 boys high jump but unfortunately were not able to match Aoife’s success this time. Amy Callaghan also jumped very well in the U15 high jump finishing in the top eight.  In the U15 shot putt Amy Callaghan claimed the bronze medal, while in the U16 shot putt Aine O’Sullivan threw a personal best of 9.58m with the 3kg shot to finish in eight position.  In the 60m sprints Isabella Gogan U13 ran very well and was unlucky not to get through to the final.  In the very competitive U17 long jump competition Orlaith Quinn performed brilliantly jumping 4.44m. Well done everyone.
